Parliament Secretariat: Deuba Sole Nepali PM Candidate

Leaders of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party have expressed differing views over joining the new government to be formed under the leadership of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. As per the schedule of the Parliament Secretariat, the period of filling the nominations will be from 11 am to 4pm on Saturday and the list vying candidates will be published at around 4.30 pm the same day. An official statement from the secretariat confirmed that Deuba will be the only candidate in the prime minister race on Sunday.

Deuba needs 297 votes in the 593-member Parliament to win.

Deuba previously served as prime minister from 1995 to 1997, 2001 to 2002 and 2004 to 2005.

Media reports said Deuba was set to become prime minister with majority votes in the House this week.

The new prime ministerial election in the Himalayan nation comes after Prachanda stepped down on May 24 in keeping with the accord on rotational prime ministership his party had with the Nepali Congress.

Nepal Congress has 207 votes whereas Maoist Center which has promised to support NC has 82 votes and the Democratic Forum which has 17 votes goes in favor of NC then Deuba is sure to have 306 votes which marks majority over the provision of two hundred and 97 votes.
