Bloomberg leads mass coalition declaring support for Paris climate deal

The move stirred criticism, with world leaders, climate change experts and rights groups expressing disappointment.

U.S. President Donald Trump delivers a speech at the White House in Washington D.C., capital of the United States, on June 1, 2017.

The most bewildering part of President Donald Trump's speech on Thursday - and there were plenty of bewildering moments - was when, in a nationalistic fervor, he chose to blame the Midwest for his ridiculous decision to pull out of the Paris climate accord. That is where we are. "We know that there are issues with the environment. Just because we got out of a club doesn't mean we don't care about it".

"When Donald Trump says to the world, well, we're going to negotiate a better deal. that's like O.J. Simpson saying he's going to find the real killer", Kerry said in an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press", alluding to the former American football star who was controversially acquitted of killing his former wife.

In the case of climate change, the pie is the atmosphere's capacity to absorb our emissions without triggering catastrophic change to our planet's climate. Yet this view, in addition to the flaws already identified, fundamentally misrepresents the Paris Agreement: The accord imposes no obligations on signatories.

Trump's United Nations ambassador later insisted that the president planned to renegotiate a better deal to hold down world temperatures - though almost every other country supports the Paris agreement and Trump has repeatedly called global warming a hoax in years past.

"But he'll have an open mind and listen to people", he said. He said: "With respect to the Paris accord, the focus is on the efficacy, the merits of the deal and the demerits of the deal". Developed countries make a pledged contribution to the fund, which will go towards preparing developing nations for climate change and helping them keep their greenhouse gas emissions low.

United Kingdom election: An unnecessary June poll may spell the end of May
Campaigning in West Yorkshire, the Prime Minister reiterated her assurance that the Conservatives remained a "low-tax" party. She added she would continue to work for a Labour party that "once again can deserve your confidence".

But oil producers in the United States may also be cautiously optimistic about looser environmental regulations that allow for more drilling and greater output.

The vast majority of scientists believe global warming is mainly the result of human activities, including power generation, transportation, agriculture and industry.

"He believes the climate is changing and he believes pollutants are part of that equation".

"Today, on behalf of an unprecedented collection of USA cities, states, businesses and other organizations, I am communicating to the United Nations and the global community that American society remains committed to achieving the emission reductions we pledged to make in Paris in 2015", said Bloomberg in a press release.

Climate change, trade and security were expected to be high on the agenda when Rex Tillerson met with Prime Minister Bill English.

"Mr. Pruitt, aren't you focusing on the wrong thing?" And what matters when you look at Paris is that China and India didn't take any steps, while this country did. "When Paris was executed they criticised it, said it did not hold China and India accountable".

Haley's comments are the closest acknowledgement by an administration official since Trump took office that the President - who has called climate change a "hoax" on multiple occasions - believes global warming is occurring and humanity has a role in it.
