Disney Chief Bob Iger Doesn't Believe Movie Hack Threat Was Real

The fact it opened up with over $60 million is not a cause to be disappointed, but we should actually be impressed.

Earlier this year, Dax Shepard's R-rated update of "CHiPs" tanked, netting only $18.6 million domestically against a $25 million budget.

"The US$326 million earned by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" means that The Walt Disney Studios has now crossed US$3 billion globally in 2017 to date, with worldwide grosses at US$1.903 billion and domestic grosses at US$1.102 billion", it said. Clearly, it wasn't all smooth sailing for Disney's new movie.

According to some reports, the film in question was Johnny Depp's Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the upcoming sequel to the franchise. Regarding Baywatch, it stars one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood (Dwayne Johnson), has a built-in audience, is an action/comedy hybrid like so many popular movies lately and contains dozens of gorgeous people. The film may also have been hurt by franchise fatigue, with the movie falling at the lowest opening weekend since the original. By the end of the holiday weekend, Baywatch would have taken around $22 million in the United States, that's just under half Paramount's original forecast.

Dead Men Tell No Tales trails behind the last release, On Stranger Tides, which launched with a $90 million (£70.3 million) take in 2011. With a current domestic total of $57.3 million, it doesn't look like Covenant will end its domestic run in theaters anywhere near Prometheus' $126.5 million gross, and won't likely eclipse Aliens or even Alien Vs. Predator $85.2 million and $80.3 million domestic totals. With a lousy 19% on Rotten Tomatoes, the '90s show reboot flopped with a four-day gross of only $23 million.

Garcia sealed the result on the second of three match points when the No. 43 hit a forehand into the net following a long rally. The three-time Grand Slam champion has never won at Roland Garros, and never faced unseeded Russian Karen Khachanov , either.

A number of films are meeting or passing milestones both in the US and overseas.

Another Disney offering, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2", placed second with US$27.2 million in its fourth week out.

Alien: Covenant will be Fourth at the box office this weekend. In case you'd forgotten, Guy Richie's King Arthur has the privilege of being the first casualty of summer 2017. The film's $783 million global total has already surpassed the global take from the first "Guardians" film.

The holiday weekend is usually prime time at the box office for moviegoers. The Marvel installment is inching closer to the billion mark worldwide, which is extra good news for Disney, especially after rival studio Universal just saw its latest flagship film, Fate of the Furious, race past $1 billion this weekend.
