Wawrinka, Murray, Halep in action in 4th round in Paris

Wawrinka, Murray, Halep in action in 4th round in Paris

Last month, 22 people were killed by a suicide bomber outside Manchester Arena following a concert by U.S. popstar Ariana Grande, while seven people were left dead by an attack in London on Saturday.

World No. 1 Murray, the runner-up in Paris to Novak Djokovic in 2016, brushed aside Karen Khachanov of Russian Federation 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

"It was a bad tragedy in London and also in Manchester only a few weeks ago", he said.

However, Martic, bidding to become only the 10th qualifier to make the last eight in Paris threw away a golden chance for victory.

"I appreciate everyone still coming out to support the tennis and creating a fantastic atmosphere".

Nishikori, who has won just two of 10 matches against Murray, added with a smile: "I mean, always, you know, when we play, it's always a battle".

Twice Khachanov broke the Murray serve; twice Murray responded immediately with a break of his own.

"I think one of the great things about tennis is that, I don't know exactly how many different countries are represented here in the men's and women's events, but it's a lot", said Murray after his 6-3 6-4 6-4 win over Khachanov. I'm feeling good going into the middle part of the second week.

While Murray remembered his loss to Kei Nishikori in the US Open last year, somewhat hilariously Nishikori had no recollection of the encounter, and give that Murray beat him later in the year at the World Tour Finals, there will be an element of revenge. I've hit the ball cleaner and started to find the right shots at the right moments.

How Many The Sage Group plc (LON:SGE)'s Analysts Are Bearish?
Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Holdings owns 1.52M shares. 1,830 are held by Zurcher Kantonalbank (Zurich Cantonalbank). BNP Paribas maintained The Sage Group plc (LON:SGE) on Thursday, January 28 with "Underperform" rating.

Nishikori stunned Murray in five sets at the US Open past year although he insisted he had little memory of it.

Wawrinka, the third seed, booked a place in the quarter-finals for the fourth time with a comfortable 7-5, 7-6 (9/7), 6-2 win over Gael Monfils, the last French player in the men's draw.

Having entered the tournament with doubts surrounding his form and fitness, Murray has improved the more time he has spent on court and needed just over two hours to seal a showdown with eighth seed Kei Nishikori, who beat Spain's Fernando Verdasco in four sets.

The three-time Grand Slam champion has never won at Roland Garros, and never faced unseeded Russian Karen Khachanov, either. I served well and opened up the court.

- Seventh seed Marin Cilic reached his first Roland Garros quarter-final after South African Kevin Anderson was forced to retire while trailing 6-3 3-0.

Women: 28- Carolina Garcia (France) bt Alize Cornet (France) 6-2, 6-4; 5-Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) bt Petra Martic (Croatia) 4-6, 6-3, 7-5; 3-Simona Halep (Rom) bt 21-Carla Suarez Navarro (Spain) 6-1, 6-1. "I don't even know if I won or lost".

- Svitolina will meet Simona Halep of Romania in the quarter-finals.

While Wawrinka had to dig deep early on, the opposite was true for Cilic. Sorry that I don't remember much (smiling). Garcia sealed the result on the second of three match points when the No. 43 hit a forehand into the net following a long rally.
