BJP hartal begins in Thiruvananthapuram after attacks on party offices across Kerala

Two unidentified persons on a two-wheeler today hurled a "petrol" bomb at the BJP's district office here, police said. A hartal in CPM Olavanna panchayat is being held to mark their protest for attacking the CPM office at Olavanna in Kozhikode district.

Earlier, the CPM took out a march to the General Post Office (GPO) at Pulimood in protest against the attack on Yechury.

Clashes between BJP and CPM workers were reported in some other parts of Kerala too.

Kerala has witnessed several incidents of politically-charged violence, with both BJP and ruling CPI (M) at the center of these attacks. They damaged windowpanes of the building and a few chairs.

The BJP has also called for a 12-hour hartal in Cherthala municipality, in protest against an attack on the BMS office allegedly by CPM workers.

The District Collector has ordered the police to remove flag poles of political parties erected in public places to prevent law and order issues. He also warned party workers to remain vigilant against the BJP campaign, the report says.

"This is a stage-managed event by the BJP to divert the attention of people from the bad publicity following the attack on our party leader in New Delhi", he said.
