Sessions' testimony to Congress Tuesday to be open to public

New questions about Sessions emerged last week, after former FBI Director James Comey said he and other leaders at the agency had expected Sessions to recuse himself weeks before he did so - and that the reasons behind that thinking are classified. Jack Reed, D-R.I., said he also has questions about Sessions' participation in Comey's firing - considering the firing came after Sessions recused himself from the Russian Federation probe.

Lankford said Sessions' testimony Tuesday will help flesh out the truth of Comey's allegations, including Sessions' presence at the White House in February when Trump asked to speak to Comey alone.

Sessions, who was scheduled to be on Capitol Hill for a budget testimony Tuesday, will instead likely face new Russia-related questions that arose as a result of former FBI Director James Comey's congressional testimony last Thursday.

A source at the Department of Justice told FOX Business that the Attorney General requested the hearing be public.

Mr. Sessions said it's clear the Russian investigation would become the focus of questioning.

Sessions recused himself from the inquiry in March after media reports that he had been in two previously undisclosed meetings previous year with Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak. Sessions is already in hot water for failing to disclose during his confirmation hearing that he had meetings with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak throughout the 2016 campaign.

On Comey's accusations that Trump pressed him to drop the FBI investigation of his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, Bharara said "no one knows right now whether there is a provable case of obstruction" of justice. It involves an effort to roll out an increase in apprenticeship programs for blue-collar workers, which the White House says is a key part of Trump's agenda. "I'm not the FBI director, but I was the chief federal law enforcement officer in Manhattan with jurisdiction over a lot of things including, you know, business interests and other things in NY".

Conway also said Comey's testimony showed President Donald Trump was not under investigation. Can you say "collusion"?

The public hearing was announced Monday by Intelligence Chairman Richard M. Burr and Vice Chairman Mark Warner.

The Senate investigation is one of three Russian Federation inquiries, including one being headed by the FBI.

It would be "fitting" for the attorney general to appear before Judiciary, Feinstein, the top Democrat on that panel, said on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday. Schumer said. "Third, he says he was involved in the firing of Comey, and the president said Comey was sacked because of Russian Federation".

"If this is trying to interfere in a process of any investigation, it doesn't seem like it was, No. 1, very effective, and, No. 2, came up a couple of times in a conversation", Mr. Lankford said. And the same committee asked Comey for his memos about conversations with Mr. Trump.
