Trump to tout apprenticeships as way to fill jobs gap

US President Donald Trump has been invited by a top Democratic leader to testify before the Senate over his relationship with sacked Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey and the probe into the alleged Russian meddling in the US polls.

When former FBI Director James Comey testified in front of Congress last week, his words left most of the country reeling.

Richman declined a reporter's request to provide the document.

It would the second consecutive week in which the White House will make a push to show Trump is moving ahead on his top domestic priority - jobs - in spite of investigations into whether he had anything to do with possible Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election.

"It's very hard to get the media to focus on your issues when there's so much turbulence happening, but you have to do it", Bonjean said.

Three senators said Sunday that Trump should now divulge or acknowledge any such tapes.

"James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

Though noting that Trump said Friday he would answer Mueller's questions under oath, Sekulow declined to rule out ordering at some later date the firing of the widely praised Mueller, who preceded Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director. His dry quip at a Senate hearing that he was "between opportunities" vastly understates the career prospects available to him now - not to mention the long-running public fascination with the veteran lawman.

In stunning public testimony last week, James Comey acknowledged arranging for a friend to leak details of a conversation Comey had with President Trump - the February 14 Oval Office encounter in which Trump said he hoped the FBI director could "drop" the bureau's investigation of fired national security adviser Michael Flynn, according to Comey's contemporaneous notes.

Two sources familiar with what Comey said in the closed door gatherings told NBC News about the confirmation. As Comey recalled (relying on the notes he made at the time), the one-on-one dinner with Trump on January 27 was "an effort to have me ask for my job and create some sort of patronage relationship".

"I would be fine with issuing a subpoena", Collins said.

Meanwhile, the Senate investigation into collusion with Russian Federation or obstruction of justice is extending to a Trump Cabinet member.

According to notes kept by Comey, Trump asked for his loyalty at a dinner in January; at a meeting the following month, he asked Comey to drop the probe into Michael Flynn.

Reed said he also wants to know if Sessions had more meetings with Russian officials as a Trump campaign adviser than have been disclosed.

Trump's lawyer, and most Republicans, are actually telling themselves that Comey's testimony exonerates the Leader. And if a public news conference seemed a tad self-serving for the noble Comey, he could simply call a friend and suggest he leak details of what Sessions told him to The New York Times.

"I think the president made it very clear on Friday that he would get back as soon as possible on this", he told reporters. And the worst he could say about Comey was to call him a "leaker", which Comey freely admitted in his testimony.
