The Trailer For Happy Death Day Is Here

Video: A university student is forced to live the same day over and over again.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have released the first trailer for the new horror film Happy Death Day.

Certainly, the title of the movie is rather ironic and even humorous in terms of the day that Tree finds herself repeating over and over again.

Who will fight on the Mayweather-McGregor undercard?
The fight - under boxing rules - is bound to draw huge interest from fans and massive pay days for the two fighters. McGregor has generated buzz that reaches far beyond that of the considerable boxing and MMA audience.

While the whole "Groundhog Day with a twist" pitch should be wearing thin by now, there are plenty of pleasures to be found in this preview. In order to break the loop, she not only has to avoid dying - she needs to figure out just who is trying to kill her and why. After she leaves the dorm and heads back to her own place it becomes clear that this is not just a regular day, it also happens to be her birthday.

While the film definitely borrows some traditional slasher movie iconography (including a disconcerting mask for the killer to wear), the trailer's focus on this being a mystery that can be solved rather than an excuse for a body count is refreshing. The trailer already sets up quite a few suspects as we see our heroine make her way around campus, mostly making people mad with her indifferent ways. But now we're getting a slasher film version from Hollywood.

Happy Death Day is directed by Christopher Landon (Disturbia, Paranormal Activity) and written by Scott Lobdell (X-Men) and Landon. You know, Friday the 13th.
