US Anti-Iran Sanctions Violate Nuclear Deal: Leader's Aide

Sen. Bernie Sanders slammed the Senate's decision on Thursday to impose new sanctions on Iran, saying that the move could put the 2015 nuclear deal at risk.

Shortly after the US Senate voted for new sanctions on Iran's ballistic missile program, Tehran has said it will give a "proper response" to the move, the Young Journalists Club reported June 16. Bob Corker, the Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as cited by USA Today. He added the allegations of Iran's support for terrorism is "farcical" and "shameful".

The bill seeks to target businesses and financial institutions that have commercial dealings with any entity designated by the US for playing a role in Iran's ballistic missile program.

"It's a much more powerful sanctions measure than merely just designating Iranian entities that are involved in missile development", Mark Dubowitz, CEO of the nonpartisan think tank Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told CBS News. The accord, signed between Iran and the so-called P5+1 countries (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the USA, plus Germany) and the European Union, was touted as one of the main foreign policy achievements of the Obama administration.

But from the ashes of that defeat has grown the unlikeliest of Champions Trophy finalists. "No one thought we'd reach the final". But with the game getting the same wicket as the Pakistan versus Sri Lanka match, it could be slightly on the slower side.

"In the aftermath of the Iran nuclear deal, AJC has continued to raise concerns about Iran's threatening behavior with our own and other governments", Jason Isaacson, the group's associate executive director for policy, said in a statement. Trump has in the past called the nuclear agreement between Tehran and the major powers "the worst deal ever negotiated".

"As the Islamic Republic of Iran has so far fulfilled its commitments precisely and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has also repeatedly confirmed this, all the signatories to the JCPOA are duty-bound and obliged to meet their commitments completely", Qassemi added.

The sanctions come following two sets of sanctions imposed in February and May by the US Treasury Department over Iran's missile program.
