Watch Putin Offer Political Asylum to James Comey

"This sounds odd when a secret service chief records his conversation with the commander-in-chief to hand the record to the media", Putin said of Comey's practice of note taking.

"How then is the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation different from Mr Snowden? In that case, he's more of a rights campaigner defending a certain position than the security agency chief".

'If this entails some kind of prosecution against him, we are ready to grant him asylum in Russia, ' Putin said of Comey.

The offer, made with Putin's trademark sardonic humour, came as the Russian president poured scorn on Comey for his role in a row in Washington over alleged Russian meddling in last year's USA presidential election.

Putin never misses an opportunity to make hay of American political calamities, and he has a golden opportunity to sully his enemies in the U.S. Deep State yet again.

'Take a globe, spin it and point your finger at any spot, there's surely American interests and interference there, ' Putin told the crowd. In an interview with filmmaker Oliver Stone, which is being broadcast in episodes on the cable network Showtime, the Russian president appeared to offer a limited defense of the man that many US officials have accused of treason.

He said Moscow and Washington could cooperate to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and pool efforts to tackle the North Korean nuclear and missile problem. If extradited to the U.S., Snowden would face espionage charges.

Trump slams widening Mueller probe
The leaders of the committee said in a statement issued on Wednesday that they "look forward to future engagements" with Mueller. The investigation into Trump started after former FBI Director James Comey was sacked , according to the Washington Post report.

Russian Federation has managed to overcome its recession and achieved a year-on-year growth of 0.7 percent in the first quarter of 2017, he said.

Putin said Russia's influence over Americans' minds was no greater than American influence from US -based NGOs in the countries they do work in.

Following the 97-2 vote, Republican Senator of Idaho Mike Crapo, who introduced the measure, said it "will result in very powerful new sanctions against Russia".

"We have restored our competence in radio electronics, aircraft construction, missiles, in the pharmaceutical industry.in heavy engineering", President Putin said. He also pointed at low inflation and rising hard currency reserves.

As in the past, Putin chided regional authorities for failing to provide due care for people and ordered them to quickly fix the flaws. It shows that the recession in the Russian economy is over.

Putin was speaking to journalists after his annual marathon phone-in with Russian citizens, during which he said that judging by the public's questions sent to the studio, government corruption is "not a priority".
