Portugal will play Mexico in the Confederations Cup, Group A soccer match scheduled f.

Ronaldo has scored 18 goals in his last 11 matches, including two in Portugal's 3-0 win at Latvia in a European World Cup qualifier last week, the team's last match before the Confederations Cup opener against Mexico.

Silva's first goal with Portugal's main squad was an 86th-minute close-range strike against Andorra, capping a 6-0 rout in which Ronaldo scored four times.

Ronaldo has scored 12 goals in six worldwide outings since coming off injured in the Euro final, but Mexico - winners of the Confederations Cup in 1999 - are confident they can stop him.

Mexico, who drew 1-1 at home to the United States in World Cup qualifying last weekend, will look to Real Sociedad's Carlos Vela and Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez for inspiration.

Mexico has won five of its last six matches.

Mexico will now turn their attention to New Zealand for their match on Wednesday in Sochi.

Shot US congressman Steve Scalise off the critical list
After Scalise was shot in the hip, the bullet traveled through his pelvis, fractured bones and injured internal organs. Pence said he and his wife, Karen, were praying for Scalise and all the injured and their families, as is America.

After a stray touch in what is usually a scoring position for him, Ronaldo caught out the Mexican defence with a lovely reverse ball for Quaresma who showed composure to mug the goalkeeper and tap it home. "We faced the European champions, a team that plays at a very high level, and we played equal to them".

"Now we have to take on the cup with the players we have and there is quality and talent".

Portugal coach Fernando Santos said it was not the performance he expected from his team.

"He is an example for us, the way he works, the way he plays", Patricio said. "He is an idol, even for us players", admitted veteran defender Bruno Alves, the 35-year-old who has just signed for Scottish club Rangers.

Yet there were some heart-in-mouth moments for the Portuguese players as the referee passed the decision onto the VARs.

Play continued for about 10 seconds until the ball got to Nani and he scored from inside the area after a shot by Ronaldo hit the crossbar.

But the assistant did not flag for the offense.
