Authorities identify man who shot nurse at Ocala hospital

A man who allegedly shot and wounded a nurse at a Florida hospital has been charged and held without bond.

Gignac had been arrested earlier in the day at Mile Marker 341 on Interstate 75 in Marion County where he had been walking.

Prior to the shooting, the Florida Highway Patrol said troopers approached a man three times on a street. The nurse is in stable condition. Gignac was then transported to the West Marion Hospital via ambulance.

Justices say law on controversial trademarks is unconstitutional
The 71-year-old trademark law that bars disparaging terms infringes on free speech rights, the justices ruled unanimously 8-0 . The decision capped an eight-year legal battle in which the band fought to legally protect its name as a commercial entity.

Troopers say he was taken into custody after seeing him walk down the highway on Saturday afternoon, asking to be taken to the hospital. That's when the struggle occurred and the nurse was shot.

The three officers involved in the struggle received minor injuries and FHP is investigating the incident.

According to Marion County jail records, Gignac was charged Sunday with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting a law enforcement officer with violence.
