'Baywatch' gets ahead of 'Wonder Woman' in opening weekend in India

Wonder Woman's weekend earnings comfortably puts it ahead of the lifetime grosses of previous female-fronted superhero movies, including 2004's Catwoman, which grossed $82m worldwide, and 2005's Elektra, which managed $57m.

This weekend, Wonder Woman proved the importance of-and need for-women-led films, earning $103.1 million at the box office-the highest-grossing opening weekend for a woman director. "Fifty Shades of Grey", directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, previously held the record with $85.1 million in 2015.

However, Jenkins' film only has the record for the largest United States opening: at the worldwide box-office, Fifty Shades of Grey retains the title having grossed $242 million compared to Wonder Woman's opening $223 million. "They're about women as well", Warner Bros.' Jeff Goldstein told the Associated Press.

Aquaman director James Wan took time to praise Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot, and Chris Pine on Twitter regarding Wonder Woman.

Box office takings for the movie Wonder Woman stood at $100.5 million (€89 million) as of yesterday in the USA.

Mexico fully deserved Portugal point, says Osorio
He attracted headlines last week after being accused by a Spanish prosecutor of defrauding the country's tax authorities. With this draw, Portugal and Mexico are in second and third place, respectively, in Group A with one point each.

Nevertheless, "Wonder Woman" represents a turning point for Warner Bros. and DC Comics, which have together struggled in recent years to match the Marvel-Disney juggernaut.

"Wonder Woman" is now playing nationwide.

Even the Israeli beauty, Gal Gadot admitted in an interview that she had never thought she would ever get to play an influential character like Wonder Woman in her life. Other huge openings for female-helmed films include Twilight's Catherine Hardwicke ($69.6 million), and Pitch Perfect 2's Elizabeth Banks ($69.2 million).

Wonder Woman has managed to bag a lump sum box office collection in India after it was released on June 2. The movie was forecast to place second with $29.5 million in sales, according to BoxOfficePro.

"Baywatch", $8.5 million ($23.8 million international).
