Bullfighter gored to death after tripping on his cape

A prominent Spanish bullfighter has died after being gored by a bull during a bullfight in France. Then the animal took the opportunity to attack him and with his horns seriously injured his lungs.

The bullfighter caught his feet in his cloak while attempting a turn created to distract the specially-bred fighting animal.

The bull was pictured goring Fandino's right side and throwing him in the air.

He had suffered a cut to the ear while fighting his first bull of the day earlier on Saturday before his fatal encounter.

According to the League Against Cruel Sports, each year tens of thousands of bulls are maimed, tortured and killed for entertainment in Spain, Portugal, France, Colombia, Mexico, USA, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru. The Spaniard, from the Basque region, leaves behind a wife and daughter after his death in the bullring at Mont-de-Marsan, France.

Italian authorities also found Islamic State propaganda on Zaghba's phone at the time but were unable to prosecute him. Twelve people who were arrested in Barking on Sunday in connection with the attack have been released without charge.

Fandino is the second Spaniard to die in the arena in the previous year but the first to be killed in France in nearly a century.

The Humane Society International said Fandino's death was a "tragedy".

"We just do not know how it could have happened".

Bullfighting is illegal in the United Kingdom but is practiced in other parts of Europe and the rest of the world, despite it being a divisive activity. Ivan Fandino was due to enter the ring at the upcoming eighteenth San Isidro Fair in Madrid.
