London vehicle hits pedestrians, police say 'number of casualties'

We sent over 60 medics to the scene, including ambulance crews, advance paramedics and specialist responses teams and an advance trauma team from London's Air Ambulance, said the service's Deputy Director of Operations, Kevin Bate. Police said eight of the injured were hospitalized; the other two had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

"Given we are approaching the end of the month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid with many Muslims going to local mosques, we expect the authorities to increase security outside mosques as a matter of urgency".

One person was arrested after a vehicle plowed into a group of people, hurting several just after midnight in north London, police said.

"There has been one person arrested".

"From the window, I started hearing a lot of yelling and screeching, a lot of chaos outside".

I tried to stop him (the suspect), some people were hitting him but I said stop him and keep him until the police came.

"I saw a man underneath the van".

The suspected terror attack took place in Finsbury Park, North London. His attack killed five people. "He targeted Muslims this time", the witness, identified only as Rayan, said.

He added: "I said, 'tell me why did you try driving to kill innocent people?'"

The interior minister, Amber Rudd, said police "immediately" treated the incident as a suspected terrorist attack.

Harun Khan of the Muslim Council of Britain says eyewitness accounts and videos taken appear to show that a "white man in a van intentionally plowed into a group of worshippers who were already tending to someone who had been taken ill". I think between eight to 10 people were taken away.

"At that moment in time, basically a van swerved into them deliberately", he said, citing a witness at the scene.

Scotland prop Allan Dell and fly-half Finn Russell were then called up following Scotland's 24-19 defeat of Australia in Sydney on Saturday.

Police said the man they apprehended was taken to hospital as a precaution and will be taken into custody once discharged, where a mental health assessment will be carried out. Please report anything suspicious to the police, but only call 999 in an emergency.

Police have also denied rumors that a knife was involved. In March, a man drove a vehicle into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge and stabbed a police officer to death before being shot dead.

On May 22, a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a pop concert in Manchester, killing 22 people.

One victim of the attack is believed to have died.

The mosque received a string of threatening emails and letters in the wake of the Paris attacks.

Metropolitan Police said officers were called to the scene on Seven Sisters Road at 12:20 a.m. Monday.

"Our mosque and welfare centre provides vital support to many people in North London and we will continue to do this despite this incident".

May was due to hold an emergency ministerial meeting later on Monday to discuss the attack.

She said: "It was really ugly".

Another man, who gave his name as Mohin, said his cousin was caught up in the incident.
