Rubio: Trump firing Mueller 'not going to happen'

In multiple freakish Sunday morning interviews an attorney for President Donald Trump insisted that the president is "not under investigation by the special counsel" despite reports that Trump is under investigation for allegedly obstructing justice for firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

Donald Trump is not under investigation for firing FBI Director James Comey, the president's lawyer said, in seeming contradiction to a tweet the USA leader had sent out earlier complaining of a "witch hunt" against him.

"Here's the constitutional threshold question", Sekulow said to host Chris Wallace, referring to Trump's firing of then-FBI Director James Comey in early May.

Tensions are building inside the Justice Department as Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein contemplates whether he will become a witness in the ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 United States elections. "That tweet was in response to a "Washington Post" story that ran with five unnamed sources, without identifying the agencies they represented, saying that the special counsel had broadened out his investigation to include the president", he said. Significantly, the Washington Post claims that even before Mueller's appointment, the Justice Department had opened an investigation into Trump for possible obstruction of justice.

"Witch hunt!" On Sunday a member of the President legal team Jay Sekulow, swooped in to try to patch things up but instead seemed to confuse things further.

Rasmussen said Friday its daily presidential tracking poll that 50% of likely US voters approve of Trump's job performance, while the other 50% disapprove. He said this week he had not found reason to do so — making the statement in the days after Trump's friends raised the possibility that the president himself was thinking of "terminating" Mueller. But by the time he issued his final report in 1998, he had not only shifted his focus to whether Bill Clinton had perjured himself in testifying about hanky-panky with a White House intern, Monica Lewinsky, he had also investigated everything from Vince Foster's suicide to the firing of White House travel office personnel, the improper handling of Federal Bureau of Investigation files, and a wide variety of the Clintons' business activities before Bill became president. Mueller was tasked with taking over the executive branch's investigation into alleged Russian interference and potential collusion between Russia and Trump's associates. "So that - nothing has changed in that regard since James Comey's testimony".

The machete, crowbar and shotgun were all recovered at the scene of the crime, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office . The residents disarmed one of the suspects, later identified as Alen Beltran-Vazquez, and held him until deputies arrived.

The president has directed some of his frustration at Rosenstein and Mueller.

If Rosenstein recuses himself, Brand, a Trump appointee, would become the top Justice official overseeing Mueller's work.

It comes after Mr Trump appeared to admit for the first time on Friday that he is being investigated, as he lashed out at a top Justice Department official probing links between Russian Federation and the President's election campaign. He says the Trump tweet was specifically directed at a story in The Washington Post about the expanding probe into Russia's election meddling.

Rubio says: "If it involved working with Americans, whether wittingly or unwittingly, that needs to be part of" the investigation. He added: "A lot of people have said, 'When do you think you'll be done?' Maybe the end of the year".

"You don't know that he's not under investigation", Wallace said.

Again, Sekulow left out some key points, which Wallace and others were only too happy to raise: Trump later told NBC's Lester Holt that he had already made up his mind to fire Comey regardless of the recommendation from Sessions and that he was firing him because he was unhappy with the Russian Federation investigation. "And the president [has] a very effective utilization of social media".
