Trump Confirms Being Investigated for Firing Ex-FBI Director Comey

Trump has revealed that he thinks he is being investigated by saying on Twitter: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!" Trump has also told friends and others that a "witch hunt" is being conducted against him.

Mr Trump, who is due to give a speech in Miami on Friday where he is expected to announce a shift in United States policy towards Cuba, also boasted about his deployment of social media, despite warnings by legal experts that his tweets may be used against him in the ongoing investigation.

An official of Trump's transition confirmed the laywer's internal order sent Thursday.

Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein submitted a widely circulated memo to the president last month raising concerns over Mr Comey's performance, but Mr Trump later said he had already made the decision to fire Mr Comey.

However, several days later, in an interview with NBC News's Lester Holt, Trump contradicted his administration and cited "this Russian Federation thing" as the reason for Comey's sacking.

Mueller is the person Rosenstein appointed to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

President Trump on Friday appeared to confirm on Twitter he was under investigation for firing FBI Director James Comey, but used his tweet to also take aim at the Justice Department official who recommended he do so.

But it was released shortly after The Washington Post reported - citing unnamed USA officials familiar with the matter - that the business dealings of President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are being investigated by Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller, who has been investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election and the Trump administration's potential ties to Russia.

Confederations Cup 2017: Russia, New Zealand primed for opener
The Russian interior ministry has since blacklisted 292 fans, effectively banning them from attending official sporting events. From Saturday to July 2, Russian Federation is hosting the Confederations, the main warm-up event for next year's World Cup.

The president made a tweet about his defeated Democratic opponent complaining that the probe is unfair.

"Why is that Hillary Clintons family and Dems dealings with Russian Federation are not looked at, but my non-dealings are?" he asked at one point.

The statement came as word surfaced that Mueller is now reportedly looking into the finances and business dealings of Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser.

On Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence hired an outside lawyer to advise him and represent his legal interests.

As a result, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is unlikely to regain public and congressional trust until it has a Director who understands the gravity of the mistakes and pledges never to repeat them.

Mr Trump is unlikely to face criminal prosecution as a sitting president, but obstruction of justice could be grounds for impeachment.

But Mr Comey also testified that to his knowledge the president had not tried to stop the Russian Federation investigation.
