Trump lawyer says Trump not under investigation, despite Trump's tweet

The natural interpretation of that statement is that the president is, in fact, under investigation - but Trump attorney Jay Sekulow said Sunday that is not the case.

"At the core of the resistance is not the president".

Jay Sekulow appeared on NBC's Meet the Press and CNN's State of the Union on Sunday morning to make his case.

A report surfaced that the White House is set to push House Republicans to change the Russian Federation sanctions bill to make it more friendly to Russian Federation. "But let me be very clear here, as it has been since the beginning, the president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction". "And you saw the majority of my colleagues didn't agree with it this week", he added. "The best thing that could happen for the president, and the country, is a full and credible investigation".

"That tweet was in response to a Washington Post story that ran with five unnamed sources without identifying the agencies they represented, saying that the special counsel had broadened out his investigation to include the president".

Trump had tweeted: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! I'm just curious, why doesn't the president embrace this investigation if he's innocent?"

61 killed in deadly forest fire in Portugal
Modi condoles loss of lives: PRIME Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday condoled the loss of lives in the forest fires in Portugal . Mayor of Pedrogao Grande, Valdemar Alves, said that some villages had been " completely surrounded by flames".

President Donald Trump is beginning his day with a stream of tweets defending his record and lashing out at the investigation into Russian interference in the election.

The interview became lively when Sekulow seemed to contradict himself, suggesting that Trump was under investigation after firing Comey on the recommendations of the attorney general and deputy attorney general.

"The Senate rules are not conducive to that sort of action and so again, I think that we need to all kind of stop here and understand no matter what that group works on and produces, it's only a starting position", he told CNN. Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said that the panel - overseeing one of several congressional investigations - is looking forward to getting a response from the White House on whether recordings exist.

Sekulow made similar arguments in another Sunday interview with CNN's Jake Tapper.

Trump advisers describe the president as increasingly angry over the investigation, yelling at television sets carrying coverage and insisting he is the target of a conspiracy. Todd said. "If this investigation is going to find - and he knows he did nothing wrong, then he shouldn't be afraid of this investigation".

Trump's tweets following the report appeared to confirm the investigation, but his lawyer said it only appeared that way because of the character limit on Twitter. President Trump tweeted Friday.
