Georgia Special Election Ends in Disappointment for Democrats

Rep. Tim Ryan, who unsuccessfully challenged Pelosi for minority leader past year, told Business Insider said he did not know how Democrats could take the House in 2018 if the GOP was successfully able to convince independents and Republicans that a vote for a Democratic candidate is essentially a vote for Pelosi's leadership. The honest answer is, in some areas of the country, yes, she is.

In a Tuesday night tweet, Trump congratulated Handel and said "we are all very proud of you!" "The good news for Republicans is that swarms of national media and images of Nancy Pelosi still motivate their base", Wasserman writes, while noting that Republicans can't count on that kind of super attention in every race. I have enormous respect for her. "It's time for a new generation of leadership in the party". "So the trick is to get these people to the polls", she continued. Ryan told CNN that the Democrat's "brand is just bad". Millions were spent on both sides - tons of money coming via liberal California in support of Democrat Jon Ossoff who was essentially hand picked by House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California.

The congressman, however, remained quiet about whether he will attempt to challenge Pelosi for leadership as he did last November. Tim Ryan said, "You know what?"

Looking at the campaign ads eventual victor Karen Handle ran in the Georgia race, one would have thought she was running against Pelosi, not Jon Ossoff.

Despite the districts long Republican ties, the fact remains the district was winnable for Democrats, with Trump having won the district by only one percent.

The Republicans have held Georgia's 6th Congressional District since the late 1970s and, really, since the political realignment of the South.

Earlier that day, 10-year-old Nolan McCabe was killed in Alabama by a log flung into the air by a wave. It was centered about 75 miles (115 kilometers) north-northeast of Memphis at midday Friday .

Pelosi:"I'm worth the trouble". Democrats remain optimistic, acknowledging the loss was not what they had hoped for but there is still much work to be done to combat the wealthy Republicans.

The recent victories of the Republicans in two special congressional elections held this week should give the Democrats a heads-up of what could possibly take place in the 2020 #Presidential Election.

Keith Ellison, a Minnesota representative, also backs her leadership.

"I think you'd have to be an idiot to think we could win the House with Pelosi at the top", Rep. Filemon Vela of Texas, who supported Pelosi's bid to keep her leadership seat a year ago, told Politico.

Ossoff's campaign raised $23.6 million alone from individual donors, compared to $5.6 million for Handel, The New York Times reports. You have a baseball team that keeps losing year after year.

Some are arguing that the Georgia race, in which Republicans ran heavily against Nancy Pelosi, proves that she is toxic and should retire.
