No link between Palestinian Jerusalem attackers and any armed group: Israeli police

A short distance away, two Palestinians opened fire and tried to stab a group of Israeli police officers.

They say the attackers were theirs and from the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

COGAT said while the visiting permits were canceled, the prayer permits remained.

Thirty-eight Israelis, two American tourists and a British student have been killed in stabbings, shootings and car-rammings, many of which took place in the vicinity of the Old City's Damascus gate.

"We in Hamas do not start wars and we do not expect one, this is our political assessment", Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas's deputy leader in the Gaza Strip, told reporters in Gaza.

In the West Bank city of Bethlehem, an Israeli settler was injured in a stabbing attack, the Israeli army said in a statement.
