No link between Palestinian Jerusalem attackers and any armed group: Israeli police

A short distance away, two Palestinians opened fire and tried to stab a group of Israeli police officers.

All three attackers were shot dead by officers at the scene. "I have instructed the police to reinforce security arrangements and checking procedures in the plaza around Damascus Gate", he said.

The claim comes in the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, in which the jihadi group has called for a surge of attacks.

Medics said two other people were moderately wounded in the attack, and a further two lightly wounded.

Israel had eased restrictions on the entry of Palestinians from the West Bank to Jerusalem for Ramadan.

He also said the attack proved the Palestinian Authority's policy of security coordination with Israel was wrong, calling it "a national crime".

More than 300 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces since the beginning of October 2015.

On Friday, three assailants, armed with knives and a homemade automatic weapon, carried out two attacks at two locations simultaneously.

Following the attack, the Israeli army raided Deir Abu Mashal, the village near Ramallah the three perpetrators hailed from, sealing off its entrances and mapping out the homes of the three for demolition.

He slammed the Palestinian leadership for not denouncing the attack while condemning Israel for killing the terrorists.

Nickolay Mladenov, United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, stated earlier that he was appalled by the Palestinian statement.

Israeli police said no connection had been found between the three Palestinians who carried out the fatal attack and any organisation.

"We in Hamas do not start wars and we do not expect one, this is our political assessment", Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas's deputy leader in the Gaza Strip, told reporters in Gaza.

In the West Bank city of Bethlehem, an Israeli settler was injured in a stabbing attack, the Israeli army said in a statement.
