Arizona governor: Wildfire is top priority

A fast-moving wildfire has charred more than 28 square miles (72 square kilometers) in north-central Arizona and forced the evacuation of the town of Mayer as a precaution, along with other areas. Fire crews encountered increased fire activity at 2:30 a.m. where the fire had crossed Highway 69.

Overnight Tuesday through Wednesday morning, firefighters were establishing a perimeter around Mayer with bulldozers carving fire breaks.

And in California, a wildfire destroyed the home of "Big Bang Theory" star Johnny Galecki on a ranch in the San Luis Obsipo area, said Nicole Perna, a spokeswoman for the 42-year-old actor.

The fire is 5 percent contained, and at least one community has been evacuated by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

Many residents have painful memories of a 2013 wildfire that killed 19 members of an elite Prescott-based firefighting crew nearly four years to the date, and some struggled to leave their homes behind.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey said in statement Wednesday that the fire is the state's top priority. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. A shelter has been set up Bradshaw Mountain High School, 6000 E. Long Look Prescott Valley of Glassford Hill Road.

"Yesterday you could not smell it, which means it was probably blowing away from us", Dewey-Humboldt resident Zerril Perkins said.

Bubbles, drums and tears: Chaos outside court as Cosby jury deliberates
Her mother, Gianna Constand , pulled a cloth from her pocket to wipe away tears Wednesday as she listened to the testimony . It appears that select jurors will not budge which will force Judge O'Neill to declare the case against Cosby a mistrial.

He and his wife were packed and ready to head to Phoenix if necessary.

Residents of a northern Arizona town that has been evacuated say they struggled to leave behind their homes.

The fire has burned over 28 square miles (73 square kilometers). Firefighters in Idaho battled five lightning-sparked wildfires burning in grass and brush.

Hundreds of people have been evacuated from their homes in some parts of the U.S. state of Arizona due to the rapidly spreading Goodwin Fire.

There have been no reported injuries from the Goodwin Fire, and authorities believe structures have been lost but are not certain yet how many.

Tiffany Davila of the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management says the fire is in a rugged area, and heavy winds Monday and Tuesday have made it hard to suppress. The road is a major link between Prescott Valley/Prescott and Phoenix.
