This year's Bastille Day parade comes 100 years after USA troops landed in western France to help the Allied Powers to victory over Germany and its allies in World War I.

President Emmanuel Macron's government has launched an effort to redesign French labor rules, one of the most important and divisive promises of his presidency.

US President Donald Trump has accepted French President Emmanuel Macron's invitation to attend Bastille Day ceremonies in Paris on July 14, a senior White House official said on Wednesday.

The holiday commemorates the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, an event that marked a turning point in the French Revolution.

This year, the event will mark "the 100th anniversary of the USA joining the war with French troops in World War I", an official in Macron's office said.

The Elysee Palace said Trump would attend a Bastille Day parade in the French capital as part of commemorations marking 100 years since the United States entered World War I.

A White House statement said the visit would reaffirm the powerful links between the two nations.

Spicer said the leaders will discuss cooperation on countering terrorism, as well as the economy and other issues. It was unclear whether Trump would join Macron in Nice.

Trump is scheduled to visit Europe shortly before Bastille Day, when he travels to Poland and Germany from July 5-8.
