Vice president to travel to Central and South America

"The vice president is focused entirely on his duties and promoting the president's agenda", said Pence's Director of Communications Jarrod Agen.

The Washington Post was the first to report the news Thursday, noting that Pence had hired former Virginia attorney general Richard Cullen to represent him.

Speaking at the inaugural Conference on Prosperity and Security in Central America today, Vice President Mike Pence announced he will travel to Central and South America in August on behalf of President Trump.

In the 1980s, Cullen was special counsel to Sen.

Carlos Diaz Rosillo, director of policy and interagency coordination in the White House, said the USA and the Central American leaders hoped to make commitments on infrastructure plans and energy reform, among other things.

Cullen worked on President George W. Bush's legal team during the Florida recount in the 2000 presidential election. The investigation is also looking into whether or not the Trump campaign colluded with Moscow. He delivered an on-camera statement sharply criticizing James Comey after the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director's recent testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Even Vice President Mike Pence has hired a lawyer to represent him during the investigation.

Pence chaired the president's transition after the election - a period during which Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn had repeated contact with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

"It's tough to be Donald Trump's vice president, because Trump says flamboyant things and then if you're the vice president, you have to go on TV and defend things that are hard to defend", Stephen Moore, former senior adviser to the Trump campaign, told the Post. Cullen was USA attorney for the office from 1991 to 1993, before Comey joined the office in 1996. (R-Virginia), who served on the Senate select committee investigating the Iran-contra scandal.

Cullen's high-profile clients have included former Texas Rep. Tom DeLay and the former wife of golfer Tiger Woods.

Marc Kasowitz, the outside counsel hired by President Trump, does not have experience in politically-charged cases. He said in May, "As has been stated repeatedly and the President has been told, he's not under investigation".

Pence, who after the election served as head of Trump's White House transition team, has stood by Trump's assertion that there are no ties between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.
