Yara Shahidi Celebrates Tamir Rice After Young Stars Win At BET Awards

Well, all weekend in Los Angeles was packed with special events and celebrations this weekend, including the Interscope Records 2017 BET Awards Pre-Party.

This year BET Awards ceremony featured a bunch of great performers and performances but, what is more important, it indirectly involved all Black people of America, as the winners in their speeches touched upon the problems we all face every day.

As far as the awards are concerned, Beyoncé lead the nominations with 7, followed by Bruno Mars with 5. The BET Awards were somewhat a capstone to African-American Music Appreciation Month, also known as Black Music Month. Meanwhile, Mary J. Blige's performance of "Love Yourself" showed why she continues to endure as the queen of hip-hop soul.

Perhaps one of the evening's biggest surprises was Tamar Braxton's powerful, throw-the-mic-stand-down performance of her latest single My Man.

"I had plans originally to try and tell the world and everybody watching how to make it a better place", he said.

After being lauded by fellow Chicagoan and former First Lady Michelle Obama, Chance gave an inspiring, impromptu speech in which he challenged both the politicians in his hometown and himself to do better serving people locally and globally.
