SnapChat tracks, posts users locations

Snapchat's buzz around the update said, "Snapchatters on iOS and Android globally will have a new way to see what their friends are up to, what's happening around the world, and get inspired to go on an adventure".

"Some users may have upgraded the App automatically, unaware of the addition of this feature which allows other users to track your location in real time as you post pictures".

Maddie's mother and presenter Nadia evidently felt strongly about getting the message about Snap Maps out there.

Maddie goes on to list some intimate details of her friends' daily lives, like the fact that someone is driving a vehicle, and another friend is listening to music in her room. She termed the update as unsafe and a step too far. Kids can choose to share only with friends or no one at all.

Users are also able to search for locations like schools and view public photos taken there.

Snapchat's newest feature is also its biggest privacy threat
Snapchat “Snap Maps” Could be Dangerous to Your Children

Have the police raised any concerns over the new feature? '[And what about] control issues?'

This is how it works: if you go into the Snapchat app and pinch the screen like you were zooming out, you will then be prompted with the walkthrough of the "Snap Map". "Although Snapchat has said the only users you can see on the map are your friends, we wanted to remind everyone that personal safety is important and you should consider what information you are sharing on this app", said a post from the Minneapolis Police Department on Facebook.

While it does provide Snapchatters with privacy, it could also be used against them, as it gives stalkers the ability to cover up their own location while tailing others, making users unaware of who might be harassing them. It's also not possible to share your location with someone who isn't already your friend on Snapchat'.

"As well as highlighting the privacy risks, it's important that children are educated about how companies profit from their data". At the very least, any update should make it very clear what the differences are and the user should agree to them.

"I just think it's disgusting". Better still, ban this latest update!'
