Liverpool allow Lucas Leiva to hold Lazio talks

But Lazio have now firmed up their interest with a bid that has been accepted by Liverpool and Lucas is expected in the Italian capital over the weekend to discuss terms and undergo a medical.

Lucas Leiva's ten year stay at Liverpool could be coming to an end fairly soon, as various outlets suggested that Lazio had seen a bid of five-million-pounds accepted for the midfielder.

The veteran Anfield player, who turns 31 in January, is now in his final year of contract with the club, and will now be allowed to leave this transfer window for more regular first team football.

Lucas is the longest-serving player in the current Liverpool squad, although his role has diminished significantly in recent times with Jurgen Klopp rarely using him.

Lazio, managed by Simone Inzaghi, have made an approach to Liverpool and Lucas is considering his options before the squad fly to Hong Kong on Sunday to take part in the Premier League Asia Trophy.

Although registering 24 games last season, it is noteworthy 12 of these were appearances from the bench.

According to Sky Sports News, negotiations have moved forward over the last 24 hours, and Lazio have now agreed a £5m deal with Liverpool as they look to bring the 30-year-old to the Stadio Olimpico ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
