New Nintendo 3DS Production Ends In Japan

While Nintendo said that it would stand by the platform, the company only announced three new titles for the New 3DS at the E3 2017 gaming convention. But Japan has preferred pocket-sized, commute-friendly alternatives for some time now and while that trend may be shifting it's hard to believe it shifted enough to end production of the extremely popular hardware line. No such marker is found on the New Nintendo 3DS XL's page, however. Nintendo has confirmed that now. Keeping the New 3DS on the market as well could just leave the market far too saturated for Nintendo's liking.

Despite Nintendo releasing the New 2DS XL in Japan on the very same day, consumers still can't help but speculate about what this move means for the future of Nintendo's popular handheld line.

That's a more modern option and customers are likely to opt for that even though it doesn't offer the 3D effects of this particular console. The New Nintendo 3DS-which packs additional RAM, more shoulder buttons, and a second analog nub over the original system-is no longer being produced for the Japanese market, according to a message on Nintendo's Japanese website.
