San Antonio Spurs Rumors: Suns almost traded for Jonathon Simmons

Simmons, 27, averaged 6.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 17.8 minutes a game in 2016-17, his second season in the National Basketball Association.

According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, Simmons is also now an unrestricted free agent after the Spurs renounced their rights to him today.

San Antonio tried to get something in return for letting Jonathon Simmons go. However, the Spurs backed out of the trade because Chandler has two years and $26 million remaining on his contract.

The unexpected move Thursday makes Simmons, 27, an unrestricted free agent.

Citing unnamed sources, they report that the company plans to seek a $1-billion valuation before the year is up. It had 15 million active monthly accounts as of June 30 this year that had streamed over the previous 30 days.

Multiple teams were heavily involved throughout Simmons' restricted free agency and became more engaged when he was on the free market.

Chandler would have plugged a hole at center for the Spurs, which they had before Joffrey Lauvergne signed and after Dewayne Dedmon left for the Atlanta Hawks. He finished two seasons there, his first two in the National Basketball Association.

In the 2017 playoffs, Simmons broke out with 10.5 points on 45 shooting and 35 percent from beyond the arc.

With Kawhi Leonard injured, Simmons started the last three games of the Western Conference Finals against Golden State and was arguably the Spurs' best player in the series.
