Senate Intelligence Committee list of interviewees expands amid Trump Jr. email controversy

President Trump went on to say that not only was the meeting "pretty standard" in politics, "zero happened".

Trump Jr. on Tuesday morning posted a series of emails between himself and Rob Goldstone, a music publicist who contacted Trump Jr. and told him about an opportunity to receive potentially damaging information about Clinton as part of a Russian government effort to help his father's campaign.

Grassley also said Wednesday that he will try to bring Connecticut's Paul Manafort, the president's former campaign manager, before the committee to question him regarding the enforcement of the Foreign Agent Registration Act.

The presence at the meeting of a Russian-American with suspected intelligence ties is likely to be of interest to special counsel Robert Mueller and the House and Senate panels investigating the Russian election interference campaign. Federal Bureau of Investigation nominee vows to resign if Trump crosses legal line Judiciary chairman will call Manafort to testify, threatens subpoena MORE (Calf.), the ranking Democrat on the committee, and they've "already agreed" that they should bring Manafort in.

"I love it", Trump Jr. said in one email response. He was told the Russian government had information that could "incriminate" Clinton and her dealings with Russia.

President Trump said that "most people would have taken that meeting", contradicting his incoming Federal Bureau of Investigation director's testimony that Donald Trump Jr should have instead alerted authorities.

Trump said in comments released by the White House on Thursday that he would invite Putin to the White House but added that now was not the right time for that.

The president reiterated that his son is a "wonderful young man".

But, he said, once Manafort comes before the committee he is subject to any line of questioning, including that of his involvement in the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower, which he attended.

NBC said Veselnitskaya denied having any connection to the Kremlin and insisted the meeting was to discuss USA sanctions against Russian Federation, not the presidential campaign.
