Teen Charged With First-Degree Murder For Shooting Mom In Head

Anna Schroeder, 15, from IL in the USA reportedly waited for her mum Peggy, 53, to come home from work on Thursday, asked her to put a towel over her face, and fatally shot her in the head in the living room of their home.

A sheriff's detective investigating the apparent homicide told that Anna reportedly waiting for her with a.38 revolver, and asked her mother to put a towel over her face before shooting her in the head.

Sauk Valley News reports that the teen texted her age mate friend, Rachel Helm, to inform her of what she had done.

KWQC reports that it was police believe it was Rachel who set the fire in two rooms in the home. The next morning the girls moved Schroeder's body to her bedroom floor and covered her with a sheet.

Anna Schroeder, 15, was charged today with first-degree murder, concealment of homicidal death and arson, accused of shooting her mother, Peggy Schroeder, 53, and then setting fire to the house to cover up evidence, Sauk Valley News reported today.

The pair chose to run away, and dyed their hair.

After leaving the cemetery, Anna went to her father's house and Rachel went home. These items were eventually found by police. While there, Anna reportedly heard that her father was coming to Morrison.

Shortly after this, Schroeder was picked up from her dad's house and taken to the Bureau County Sheriff's Department for questioning.

Prior to being officially charged with the murder, Anna wrote a Facebook post expressing love for her mother and asking for forgiveness for "not always being the best daughter".

"I don't even know if you can see me right now but if you can I just want you to know you were my best friend", the post read. But I wasn't the best daughter. I loved you so much. She allegedly shot her mother in the head and trying to hide the body by setting the house on fire. They are being held at the Mary Davis Detention Home in Galesburg. One neighbor, Jessie Harridgen, related that Anna was known for babysitting neighborhood children, including her own. Kaylene told the outlet she plans to study to become a sign language interpreter in memory of her mother, who was hearing-impaired. Her life should not have ended like this.

"I haven't really thought about my sister".

Schroeder's sister also took to Facebook to grieve, according to, where she wrote, "It warms my heart to see all the love and beautiful words from all of [Peggy's] friends". There were so many things I wanted to say and do with you.

At the moment, it's still not clear what motivated Anna Schroeder to allegedly kill her mother.
