Watford target set to discover his Chelsea future

Watford have announced the signing of midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah from Chelsea.

Chalobah returns to Vicarage Road having made 42 appearances while on loan in the 2012-13 season, where he scored five goals.

Chelsea were reluctant to lose Chalobah but had little power to keep the 22-year-old once he entered the final year of his contract this summer and could not be convinced that he would be given more senior opportunities next season.

But in a dramatic U-turn, the 22-year-old chose to leave the Premier League champions in order to further his career. His younger brother, Trevoh, is a highly-rated defender in Chelsea's academy.

He received offers from several clubs in the 2016 summer window, but Conte himself stepped in and rejected those approaches as he wanted the youngster to stay with our first team and join our efforts in battling for the Premier League title.

All of his 15 appearances came last season under Antonio Conte having failed to make the breakthrough under ex-managers Roberto Di Matteo, Rafa Benitez, Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink. "That was a confidence boost", Chalobah said at the time.

"It's a very high standard at the club and the club has an wonderful academy and produces really top players".
