Akun Sabharwal postpones leave due to severity of drugs case

The sensational drug peddling case has been running around the Telugu film industry for the last few days, with the media focussing on those who received notices from the Special Investigation Team of the excise and prohibition enforcement department. "I have cancelled my leave and will be here till the recording of statements of all those served notices is completed", Dr Sabharwal said on Saturday. These varying versions of the officer made everyone suspect that he was being forced by the leave the case and go on a holiday. "It gives me peace of mind and rejuvenates me", Mr. Sabharwal said.

The officer, however, clarified that he was under no pressure and that the government is giving him full support. But Sabharwal turned down the rumors saying he is going on leave for personal reasons. The leave was sanctioned two months ago, before this case surfaced. An hour later, he said he was going on leave to attend his late mother's ceremony.

The issue of drug abuse in Hyderabad and the south was highlighted when investigations proved that students in the area used LSD and over 1,000 students were said to be affected by this issue.

All those who were issued notices were asked to appear before the cops at the Enforcement Wing of the Excise and Prohibition complex near Exhibition Grounds Road on Nampally Station Road in the city, from 19-26 July.

From the mobile of an accused who has arrested, the people from the industry have identified based on data recovered. "I have no pressure as one is targeting me or creating any problem", he had said.
