Billie Lourd Accepts Carrie Fisher's Disney Legends Award With Touching Speech

On Friday, Carrie Fisher was posthumously honored by The Walt Disney Company when they bestowed the late actress with a Disney Legends Award, the most prestigious award the organization gives out. She certainly left mark on the world and her fans. "I loved her. We were like siblings".

Fisher and Hamill's presentations came toward the end of the Legends Awards presentation at D23, which honored nine others, including Stan Lee, Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg.

"This December we will release her final film Star Wars: The Last Jedi and as always she brought her trademark strength, heart and humour to the role". We all miss her talent, wit and her friendship. I was so obsessed with Ariel, that I wanted to change my name.

"So, to be a part of the Disney family was an incredible moment for her".

Finally, Lourd thanked everyone for the wonderful honor and expressed her sorrow at being unable to attend herself.

"May the force be with you always", she wrote, winning an ovation from the audience of around 5,000 packed into the Anaheim Convention Center in southern California.

After thanking Star Wars creator George Lucas, the films' cast and crew, and the fans, Mark spoke about Disney's impact on his career.

Carrie Fisher's Star Wars castmate Mark Hamill was on hand to pay tribute to the actress, who died in December (17). "Disney provided me a tutorial of how I can make my dreams come true by lifting the curtain", he said, explaining that it was Disney that set him on the path to a career in the entertainment industry.

"The super cool space sis I have in Carrie Francis Fisher. I know if she was here this morning, she would have flipped me the bird at least twice already".

She then went on to describe just how much her mother, who starred in the "Star Wars" franchise, loved Disney.

Adding to the poignancy of the ceremony, there were postumous awards for Disney directors Clyde Geronimi and Garry Marshall, while Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee made his first public appearance since the death of his wife Joan last week.
