Disney's live-action Aladdin finally finds its stars

Disney's live-action Aladdin finally finds its stars

- Disney announced the cast of the upcoming live-action Aladdin remake during the D23 Expo in Anaheim on Saturday.

Perhaps most exciting, however, is that Will Smith will play the Genie.

Joining Massoud in the whole new world of Disney musicals is 24-year-old British actress Naomi Scott, who has been cast as Princess Jasmine.

Mena Massoud is about to star in the upcoming Jack Ryan TV series but will become a major global heartthrob when he steps into the iconic Disney hero role.

Rajon Rondo had meeting with New Orleans Pelicans Thursday
A reunion between center #DeMarcus Cousins and veteran point guard #Rajon Rondo with the #New Orleans Pelicans is in the works. Holiday re-signed with the Pelicans for $126 million over five years and said he would be willing to play away from the ball.

Smith had been rumoured for weeks to be taking the role made famous by Robin Williams in the original 1992 cartoon.

And while established stars like Riz Ahmed ("Rogue One: A Star Wars Story") and Dev Patel ("Slumdog Millionaire") were flagged by the studio, the film ended up casting a newcomer for the coveted role.

Guy Ritchie was previously announced as director. Born in Egypt and raised in Ontario, Massoud is a relatively unknown actor with a thin resume.

Aladdin is set to begin shooting in August in London.

Aladdin, which is now in pre-production, does not have a release date but more information is expected to be released soon.
