Kashmir: PDP MLA's driver detained for questioning in 'militancy case'

Suspected of having terror links, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested Peoples Democratic Party legislator Aijaz Ahmad Mir's driver on Friday in connection to the Amarnath yatra attack.

Touseef Ahmad was picked up by police for questioning.

With today's batch, a total of 50,028 pilgrims have left Jammu for Amarnath in 16 batches since the yatra began from Jammu on June 28.

Claiming a major breakthrough in cracking the terror attack on a Yatra bus, the SIT has arrested a policeman and is also questioning a ruling PDP legislator in connection with the case.

Similarly, an Army jawan - identified as Pulwama resident Zahoor Ahmad - went missing with his AK-47 service rifle and three magazines of ammunition from a camp in Baramulla district on Thursday.

Shopian's Superintendent of Police (SP) Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar confirmed the information saying, "Touseef was cooperating with the investigators".

The arrest is second in the series by the police probing the attack on Amaranth Yatra attack.

Touseef had been deputed by the security wing of J & K police as the MLA's driver.

Aijaz Ahmad Mir said that his driver was arrested in a militancy-related case.

Seven pilgrims were killed and 21 injured in the attack on the pilgrims who were travelling in a bus near Batengoo in Anantnag on Monday.

The attack was carried out by terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and masterminded by Pakistani militant Ismail.
