Thousands of officers expected at slain trooper's funeral

Calling hours for Nichole Davis are Sunday afternoon at the Fergerson Funeral Home in North Syracuse. He is survived by a wife and three children. Calling hours are being held there from 4 p.m.to 8 p.m. today.

Serenaded by a pianist, the troopers followed the family of Joel Davis into the funeral Saturday at an Army base in northern NY. They said the suspect is an active-duty soldier in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Drum. Rebecca Finkle, a friend of Nichole, was also shot, but her injuries are non-life-threatening.

Civilians and members of law enforcement lined the streets and stood outside the funeral home where Trooper Joel Davis body was taken to in Watertown. State Police Superintendent George P. Beach II reflected the public's grief over the death of Mr. Davis.

Skrepnek said more burns were planned for fires around Williams Lake, 150 Mile House and Ashcroft . A deputy chief is also in Williams Lake to assist in resource deployment decisions.

The 36-year-old was fatally shot Sunday night while responding to reports of gunfire on a couple's property in the town of Theresa.

Mr. Davis's death is a awful loss.

Police said Fort Drum Staff Sgt. Justin Walters fatally shot his 27-year-old wife before shooting Davis. His service to the people of Northern New York is greatly appreciated, and his presence among us will be sadly missed.
