Fit-again Bale looking for successful season with Real Madrid

Not for the first time, speculation about Ronaldo's future is one of football's hottest topics after last month's shock revelation that the 32-year-old was determined to quit Real and Spain.

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has admitted to rushing his recovery from an ankle operation last season, but says he never thought of returning to the Premier League during his time on the sidelines. "The ankle is strong and I am ready".

Ronaldo has been linked with moves to former club Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain this summer after reports he would consider walking out on Real due to scrutiny over his personal income tax. "I signed a long-term contract with Madrid, and I am happy at this club".

"I'm happy playing in Madrid, logically interest is interest, but if there has been nothing concrete, no offer, then there is nothing to discuss". "I will try to have my best season, as long as injuries allow it".

"[Last year] was bad luck".

"Of course as a British player I will always be linked with a move back home and it happened with [David] Beckham and other English players who came to Spain, so there is nothing new". When asked if he has considered leaving, he told Marca: "No, everything has been complicated by my injury, but nothing else".

"The truth is I didn't read anything about United's interested". I honestly don't know. "You'll have to ask him".

With retirement very much now on the horizon, the former Sporting Lisbon man will, however, need to prioritise games from here on out, and despite this match being against a club he holds close to his heart the right decision is to watch on rather than take part.
