Joe Biden brings book tour to Michigan Theater

It seems like a million years ago that Vice President Joe Biden was walking the hallways of the West Wing, cracking dad jokes at White House staffers and always making sure that his boy Barack Obama was doing OK. 13 with an appearance at Lincoln Center in Manhattan.

In fact, the book's title was inspired by the last Thanksgiving the Biden family spent together when Beau told the vice president, "Promise me, Dad". Broadcast journalist Dan Rather, meanwhile, will kick off the festival's "Evenings With" series on November 12, and will discuss his new book "What Unites Us", a collection of Facebook essays on patriotism and the candidacy and presidency of Donald Trump.

"Age could be very much an issue, and it may not be", said Biden, 74.

After the book details were announced Monday, Biden said in a statement he hopes his memoir can help others battling through hard circumstances.

Biden's "American Promise Tour" will start in early November and end in December, according to the book's website.

"I hope my own story will strike a chord with other Americans who have walked the same path I have", Biden said in a statement to The Times.

"The answer is that I had planned on running for president, and although it would've been a hard primary, I think I could've won", Biden said in March, during a Q-and-A interview at Colgate University.

Along with a slate of 600-plus novelists, poets and journalists appearing at the literary festival, marquee authors will include former vice president Joe Biden, author and 2014 Presidential Medal of Freedom victor Isabel Allende, Obama White House photographer Pete Souza and Miami-raised Obama inauguration poet Richard Blanco.
