Thunderstorms and possible floods forecast for large parts of UK

Today will be a lovely sunny summer's day for most of us.

Essex should brace itself for "intense" downpours and thunderstorms according to the latest Met Office weather warning.

London is braced for torrential rain and thunderstorms after forecasters issued a weather warning for the capital.

On its website, the Met Office said: "Thundery showers are expected to push north across southern parts of the United Kingdom through Tuesday evening, perhaps turning more widespread towards midnight".

Thundery showers are expected to push north across the country from this evening and turn more widespread as it continues. Heavy showers have moved up across the channel into Southwest England.

Forecast: Hotter and drier weather later this week
The worst conditions are expected Wednesday through Saturday as highs climb in the upper 90s to 100 degrees. Cool temps and clear skies, it's a good night to throw open the windows and give the AC a break.

Temperatures will be fairly humid on Wednesday and Thursday before becoming increasingly cooler by the end of the week.

A similar warning is in place until tomorrow evening with possibly severe storms breaking out again on Wednesday afternoon.

Although many places won't see these showers, there is a chance of localised flooding of homes, businesses and susceptible roads.

Frequent lightning might bring disruption to power networks on both days across all regions, it added.

"Large hail may also cause impacts on Wednesday afternoon".
