Uber adds tipping feature to app

Uber riders in Pittsburgh can now tip their drivers through the app, the ride-sharing company announced Monday.

And finally, the app will match tips given to drivers on Tuesday, July 18, as part of its roll-out of the new feature.

The initiative for a half year of monthly changes was announced June 20, the same day that founder Travis Kalanick resigned as CEO, following a slew of company controversies.

Tipping was a feature many drivers sought.

Riders will need to have the latest version of Uber's app to tip. Some riders tip drivers in cash.

It was well above the 6.5% pace recorded in the year to May, and breezed past expectations for unchanged reading for the month. Property also performed strongly, with fixed-asset investment climbing 8.6 percent in the first half of the year.

Tipping will also be available through the company's UberEats food-delivery program. Passengers will now have an option to give drivers a tip at the end of their rides.

For riders, you can the ability to tip your driver after rating them when the trip is completed.

"Some changes will be big, some will be small - all will be the changes you've asked for", said an email sent to Uber drivers Monday.

Tipping remains optional, but there are a few rules.

"Getting here took many months, and it started with listening and making changes based on what drivers told us they cared about", Prichard said.
