Steelers WR Martavis Bryant Cleared To Play In Preseason

The Steelers very much need to have Martavis Bryant on the field during the 2017 season.

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said in a statement on July 27 the National Football League informed the team Bryant was "still in the process of being fully reinstated" and unable to participate in practice or preseason games. Martavis Bryant was one of the key absences, and although he's been with the team since being reinstated, the wide receiver has yet to be given full clearance for a return. "He will continue to be evaluated as to his readiness to participate in regular-season activities under the terms of his conditional reinstatement".

It appears Bryant is going to end up being reinstated, however, which means the Steelers could be getting close to seeing their offense at full force in the preseason.

The former Tiger has twice been suspended for violations of the NFL's policy regarding substance abuse. Pittsburgh saw that big-play ability and drafted him in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He particularly emerged as a weapon for Ben Roethlisberger in 2015, posting 50 receptions, 765 yards and 6 touchdowns despite missing the first four games. The Steelers would welcome him back, though he would have competition at wide receiver.
