Badgers LB Jack Cichy suffers torn ACL, out for season

Cichy was set to enter his fourth season with Wisconsin.

"I don't know exactly what's in store next", Cichy said in a statement, "but I know I'm not done with football". But if there is one thing Wisconsin has at linebacker, it's depth.

Cichy's spot on the inside figures to be filled by Chris Orr, who is coming off an injury that cost him nearly all of last season.

Head coach Paul Chryst confirmed Thursday that the Badgers will be without the senior team captain; he will undergo surgery Friday, per a school release.

Steven Gerrard definitely doesn't agree with Glenn Hoddle's Everton prediction
Gerrard called time on his illustrious career in November of past year , before starting his new role at Liverpool's academy in July.

Cichy's injury will leave a large gap at the linebacker position, especially with the likes of Vince Biegel and T.J. Watt graduating to the NFL.

Cichy was scheduled to start alongside junior T.J. Edwards, who had a team-high 89 tackles past year.

Cichy used his redshirt year in 2014 and would have to apply for a medical waiver to play for Wisconsin in 2018. Cichy was also on watch lists for the Badnarik Award and Nagurski Trophy for top defensive players in the country, Butkus Award for top linebackers in the country and Lott IMPACT Trophy this preseason.

Cichy was expected to be a key component of the Badgers' defense after recording 60 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in seven games last season before he suffered a torn pectoral that ended his season.
