Climate change worse, faster than projected, scientists tell Trump in leaked report

"Dana Nuccitelli, the GuardianThe report-based on contributions from over 450 scientists from almost 60 countries-is the most detailed climate assessment that has emerged from a government agency since Donald Trump became president, a fact that raised questions about how it will be received by the White House".

Green Car Reports respectfully reminds its readers that the scientific validity of climate change is not a topic for debate in our comments. The report itself clashes with claims coming from the Trump Administration, with some government officials arguing that climate change is little more than an urban myth. President Trump himself has likened climate change to a hoax coming from a... He was referring to a lack of political direction from the Trump administration.

Scientists are anxious about this year's climate report.

Some of the key findings of the report are that the average temperature in the USA has increased dramatically since 1980 and that recent decades have been among the warmest in the past 1,500 years.

The report says it is "extremely likely" that human activity is the "dominant cause" of recent warming - adding there is "no convincing alternative explanation".

The scientific report is working its way through the federal review process and, Hayhoe says, "has passed peer review, public review, agency review by all agencies and departments with relevant expertise, and review by a committee of the US National Academy of Sciences that was specially convened with the sole goal of reviewing this report". One-third of the sea level rise since 1880 has occurred since 1990, and coastal communities from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic are at increasing risk of routine flooding, saltwater intrusion into the drinking water supply and the collapse of roads, utilities and other vital infrastructure. But those who challenge scientific data on human-caused climate change say they are equally anxious that the draft report, as well as the larger National Climate Assessment, will be publicly released.

No, just like much of the rest of the mainstream media, the Times can't be bothered with telling the truth about global warming, or reporting both sides in the scientific debate over it. And it states that changes in the region could have impacts on the climate around the globe. Even though the increase is essentially negligible, the scientists warn that without major reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions, the temperature in the US will rise almost nine degrees Fahrenheit by the end of this century.

Alley said the cost of reducing emissions now pales beside the cost of dealing with future climate change.

Advocates said the threat is growing by the day and they want more people to mobilize.

Hurricane season could be the most active since 2010, according to research from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center.

The leak of the draft report comes amid an unprecedented streak of rapidly rising global temperatures.

The report also said the global surface temperature observed was the highest on record last year, aided by the strong El Niño early in the year.

Key members of Trump's Cabinet have more recently questioned whether carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases created by human activities are the primary cause for global warming. That's far higher than normal and "one of the worst years for drought", said report co-author Robert Dunn of the United Kingdom Met Office. But many both inside and outside government fear the final report will be suppressed by the so-called Trump administration.
