NY to Broaden Medical Marijuana Program

A Minnesota court has determined that a case involving the transport of medical marijuana products over state lines to Fulton County-based Vireo Health of NY may move forward to trial.

Another change would be that patients could bring people other than only designated caregivers to dispensaries.

Under the new regulations, the DOH is also loosening restrictions on advertising at dispensaries and "clarifying laboratory testing methods". The department is working with course providers to create a two-hour certification course that can be taken as an alternative to the DOH's current four-hour course.

The new regulations will be entered into the public record August 23, after which they will be subject to a 30-day public comment period before they can be adopted.

New Yorkers will have 30 days to comment on the proposed regulations when they are published later this month. But officials say they're continuing to look for ways to tinker with the rules to make it easier for patients to get the help they need.

"As always, we will continue to remain laser-focused on serving patients suffering from serious conditions like chronic pain, cancer, ALS and HIV/AIDS", the statement read, referring to conditions that patients are allowed to use medical marijuana to alleviate.
