Antonio Conte: Chelsea are doing their best to sign more players

Conte may be longing for fresh blood to arrive as soon as possible, but he did spare a thought for his current Chelsea contingent praising the work ethic demonstrated by his players during training sessions.

"The situation is clear and I stop".

Conte was asked when Costa might return, but a club spokesman intervened, saying: "Nothing to report on that".

"He looked expensive this time a year ago, but maybe that £89m United paid for him is not quite so lavish now, if he can convert his potential into match winning performances this season".

One of the main issues is Costa remaining in exile after Conte, who had grown exhausted of the Spain international's attempts to engineer a transfer, told him by text message that he was no longer part of his plans.

"I admit it's a very important amount but I have the personality to play with calmness and continue my path", the 24-year-old said.

Chelsea's decision to sell Matic to a direct Premier League rival has raised some eyebrows, with the defensive midfielder having played a key role in helping the Blues win the Premier League title last term.

Conte kept his counsel on Chelsea's transfer business, with the summer window open until August 31.

"The club knows very well my opinion". I think the club is trying to do their best.

Chelsea lost 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley, with Morata replacing Michy Batshuayi in the 74th minute and failing to make a significant impact before missing his spot kick in the shootout.

"It's simple. I think I'm the coach of this team".

Conte said the Spain striker needs time to bed in, while simultaneously outlining the importance of the leading forward in his team.

When quizzed on whether he wants more cover in the squad, he added: "I have already answered this question".

"But he needs time to understand, to adapt to our style of football, above all for a striker".

"Honestly I'm pleased because we are working well with the team", Conte said.

"This role is more hard to adapt to than the other roles".
