Giroud rejected chance to leave Arsenal, confirms Wenger

And, ahead of Arsenal's Premier League opener against Leicester City tonight, Wenger hopes the forward can show the club, fans and critics he is capable of playing on one of the biggest stages in club football.

Giroud then sent the previously despondent Arsenal fans wild when he headed the victor from a corner, Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel only managing to turn the ball onto the underside of the bar before it bounced over the line.

When pressed again if there's still a chance Giroud could leave before the window closes, Wenger persisted with, "It is a determined no". "It was one of the great days when he chose to stay".

Substitute Aaron Ramsey rifled home from close range to level before Giroud - introduced alongside the Wales worldwide - headed in an 85th-minute victor to settle a breathless encounter.

Arsenal haven't lost to Leicester in the league since 1994, but as we saw two years ago, Leicester have a habit of turning people's expectations on their head. "You saw the desire to get on the end of the corner, terrific". Will he transfer that into the Premier League?

"Kolasinac is a versatile player", Wenger added.

Aaron Ramsey and Shkodran Mustafi are deemed fit enough for places on a substitutes' bench that also contains Olivier Giroud.

The lead lasted three minutes before Leicester's new signing Harry Maguire headed Marc Albrighton's cross from the left back into the middle and Shinji Okazaki nodded the ball past flailing Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech.
