The Ravens have also lost starting left guard Alex Lewis (shoulder) and receiver-returner Tim White (thumb) for the season.

However, the plan remains for the veteran quarterback to be ready when the Ravens open the regular season on Sept.10 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Ravens released a statement saying, "The team now has a more definitive timeframe for QB Joe Flacco's return". Add in John Urschel retiring at the start of training camp and Darren Waller's one-year suspension, and this franchise is going to need contributions from a lot of fresh faces to compete.

On Thursday night, Mallett started the Ravens' preseason opener against the Washington Redskins and performed well, completing nine of his 18 pass attempts for 58 yards.

Conte said the Spain striker needs time to bed in, while simultaneously outlining the importance of the leading forward in his team.

The quarterback will practice in the preseason, but is not expected to play in the remaining preseason games.

Flacco injured his back shortly before reporting for Ravens training camp on July 21.

Flacco has only missed six games during his National Football League tenure, while his 122 regular-season game streak came to a halt in 2015 once he tore two ligaments in his knee. Baltimore is coming off an 8-8 season where they finished second in the AFC North to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
