USA denies air strike killed civilians in Afghanistan

The Pentagon is disputing reports that numerous civilians were killed in an eastern Afghanistan airstrike on Islamic State in Iraq and Syria militants. In June، at least three Afghan border police officers were killed in USA airstrikes in Helmand province.

The Office of the former President in a statement said the former President expresses his grief and concerns regarding the civilian deaths including women and children in a foreign airstrike in Haska Mina district.

The district chief, Saaz Wali, told VOA eight of the victims belonged to the same family and were in a vehicle when a US airstrike hit them.

Civilian casualties caused by North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces have been one of the most contentious issues in the close to 16-year campaign against insurgents, prompting strong public and government criticism.

A statement from U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, though, said the airstrike killed only militants.

They have been regularly targeting IS fighters who control several districts in restive Nangarhar.

Guardiola forecasts end to City spending spree
West Ham United have spent big this summer, but they have been able to bring in four players with proven Premier League class. The south coast club's last home game in the top flight was a 1-0 defeat by City on May 7 1983.

He also ruled out the possibility of any collateral damage, saying the strike was conducted in the middle of open terrain and there was "zero chance" of civilian casualties.

"In the strike, five insurgents were killed and two others were wounded. But, we have appointed a delegation to investigate if civilians are killed".

He said the security forces were establishing a check-post in Jumjumah Qala area, but the Taliban tried to prevent them.

Nangarhar governor's spokesman Attaullah Khogyani also confirmed the casualties. "For the time being, we do not have a precise figure about the casualties", he told AFP. It came after a U.S. airstrike in Sangin killed at least 18 civilians, mostly women and children, in February.

At least 13 civilians were killed and three injured when two mortars struck a residential area in Faryab province, an official said on Saturday.

Last month a United States airstrike killed 16 policemen in Helmand province.
