West Ham United to launch £25m bid for William Carvalho

West Ham United has reportedly placed a club transfer record bid of £27.1 million (€30 million) to Sporting Lisbon for midfielder William Carvalho. According to the Daily Mail, Sporting are looking for an offer closer to Carvalho's £39.5million release clause.

The Portuguese club are demanding €40m for Carvalho, but West Ham do not agree to that valuation and are hopeful of reaching a compromise.

The Portugal global is said to have been one of Arsenal's top targets this summer, while Italian champions Juventus have also been linked with the player.

Carvalho has been hugely sought after in recent times with Manchester City, West Bromwich Albion and Arsenal all said to have been interested in the Angola-born holding midfielder but it looks like West Ham will be the latest to test the resolve of the Portuguese club.

The Hammers have completed some very good business this summer already.

The 25-year-old, who was part of the Portugal squad that won Euro 2016, came through the youth system at Sporting before making his first-team debut in 2011.

Meanwhile, Hammers midfielder Sofiane Feghouli is said to be wanted by Turkish outfit Galatasary and midfielder Robert Snodgrass has emerged as a target of Championship club Aston Villa.

The move has captured the imagination of West Ham fans who are excited by the news, if somewhat dubious as to whether they can get it over the line.
