Woman killed as India, Pak trade fire in Poonch

A 40-year old woman killed in a ceasefire violation today, when the Pakistan Army resorted to shelling on forward villages and Indian posts along the Line of Control in Poonch district, prompting the Indian Army to retaliated strongly and effectively.

Earlier in the day, a 40-year-old woman was killed in Gohlad Kalran village after the Pakistani army resorted to indiscriminate firing for almost one-and-a-half-hour. He added that the Indian Army retaliated the firing.

Earlier, on August 8, sepoy Pawan Singh Sugra (21) of Uttarakhand was killed in Pakistani troops firing in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district. He was shifted to 425 Army Hospital in Poonch. "The exchange of fire stopped at 0645 hours?" the spokesman said. Thirteen schools in vulnerable areas would remain closed till further orders, officials said.

This year, Pakistani forces have carried out 301 incidents of unprovoked ceasefire violations along the LoC, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

"But the way the Pakistan Army is brutally killing civilians on the borders".

The official said due to heavy firing and mortar shelling by Pakistani troops, the residents living close to the LoC in Balakote sector could not take refuge in underground bunkers.
